Festival Time! Outdoor Promotion

Posted in by Maria | Edit

In just a few weeks, we'll be back at the Jazz Bar in Edinburgh as part of this year's Fringe Festival! We've got some great new songs prepared this year, and two completely different sets for your listening pleasure.

One of the best things about the Festival is wandering up and down the Royal Mile to catch the various acts performing and promoting their shows - you never know what amazing talents you'll happen upon! In This Lonely Town will be participating in this year's street events, as well. If you want to come see (and hear) what we are all about, catch us here:

This Ambitious Show

Posted in by Maria | Edit
Fun happenings this week! I'll be playing piano with This Ambitious Orchestra at the House of Yes in Williamsburg, part of a cleverly named performance entitled: This Ambitious Show. It's a live staging of songs from our upcoming album, featuring live orchestra, dancers - and of course, House of Yes' specialty - aerialists. This will be a fun event with great original music. Actually, that is an extreme understatement.

Details:

This Ambitious Show
Thursday, June 23 - Sunday, June 26th
Doors at 9PM, show at 10PM
House of Yes
342 Maujer St., Brooklyn

Back Home!

Posted in by Maria | Edit
Well, I completely did not keep my blogging promise. But the good news is, that's because we were having such a good time! Edinburgh was wonderful, the Fringe Festival is truly something everyone should experience. We saw some great shows, and after a minor flooding disaster on Wednesday, we had a great performance at the Jazz Bar on Thursday. Many, many thanks to all those who came out to support us, we hope you had as much fun as we did!

I've posted some new videos on our youtube page for anyone who couldn't make it:

www.youtube.com/mjdessena

Here's a taste!

On a cold Scotland morning, we took to the streets to perform...

Wednesday arrives!! But alas, our venue has flooded, a council pipe has exploded!! Poor Jazz Bar. Oh well, off to Whighams, who kindly let us transplant our show for the afternoon.

Chaos resides, and we arrive Thursday at the Jazz Bar, having spent the morning on the Royal Mile plugging our show to the throngs of passersby.

It was a success!

We'd have loved to perform all week, but alas, we had to return the accordion rental. Thus, we went off to the highlands, in search of Nessie, of course.

Is that Nessie in the background? Probably not. Anyway, off to Glen Coe!

It was a great trip! See you next year, Edinburgh!

One Week!!

Posted in by Maria | Edit
One week from today, In This Lonely Town will be in action at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival! If you're out and about, we're doing a 20 min. set on the Royal Mile on Tuesday at 11:30 a.m.

In the mean time, here's a sneak-peak of some of the songs from the show, taken from Saturday's NYC Preview Party!

Also - In This Lonely Town has officially been sponsored by Fractured Atlas, so check out our "Donate" page for more info if you'd like to make a tax-deductible contribution to keep our show going!

Hopefully, if we get our act together, we'll be blogging from the Festival, so check back if you can't make it to Edinburgh. :)

Threepenny Opera @ Princeton Festival

Posted in by Maria | Edit
Andi will be playing the role of Mrs. Peachum in The Princeton Festival's production of Threepenny Opera! Threepenny was Weill and Brecht's first major collaboration, and was an instant success.

"Brecht and Weill turned to John Gay's 18th-century "The Beggar's Opera" to fashion this savage, biting commentary on bourgeois capitalism and modern morality. Set in Victorian London, the bitter tale is told of the predatory outlaw known as Mack the Knife. He secretly marries the daughter of Soho's underworld boss, but is soon betrayed by his sinister in-laws and sent to prison (Andi is one of the sinister in-laws! -ed.). After being freed by the police chief's daughter, he is again betrayed- this time by a prostitute-and sentenced to death. At the final hour he manages a reprieve from Queen Victoria herself, thus providing a menacing finale of ferocious irony."

There will be 9 performances in June:

June 12, 16, 18, 22, 23, 25, 26 at 8pm
June 19, 20 at 3pm
Matthews Acting Studio
185 Nassau Street
Princeton, NJ

Upcoming Shows

Posted in by Maria | Edit
Winter weather got you feeling a little blue? What better way to shake it off than an evening of Kurt Weill? Andi and Maria are making their debut at the Metropolitan Room! They will be performing on March 2nd, but if you can't make that show (or if one night of German cabaret just isn't enough), come to their second performance on March 8th. They guarantee plenty of sultry German cabaret songs to get you through the night. And, if you're fortunate, there may even be a splash of Piaf...

Here are the details:

March 2nd, 7pm and March 8th, 7pm
The Metropolitan Room
34 West 22nd Street
New York, NY 10010
(212) 206-0440

Admission: $10, plus a 2 drink minimum

Its a small venue, so reservations are definitely recommended.

Hope to see you there!

Best,
Andi and Maria
